Is a celebrant led ceremony legal?
A wedding ceremony led by a celebrant does not include the legal paperwork needed to enter into a marriage agreement. If you choose a celebrant led wedding ceremony you will need to also visit a Register office to complete the legal part of the marriage. Couples normally choose to do this a week or a few days before their ceremony. It is a very simple process where you need 2 witnesses and costs around £70.
It is very similar to registering a birth or a death, we visit the Register office to officially declare the birth or death and then hold the celebration at a later date. Choosing to separate the legal part and the celebration part gives you ultimate freedom on what you can include in your ceremony. The best part of having a celebrant!

Can I get married outside?
Absolutely! Who doesn't love an outdoor wedding? Another brilliant thing about choosing a celebrant is that there are no rules on where you can hold your ceremony. (a registrar has to be in a specially licensed structure). There are so many option to choose from, it could be an established venue that usually hold ceremonies indoors but have a beautiful outdoor space you could use or a nature spot that is special to you in some way or your own garden! The possibilities are endless.
Can I include religion?
You certainly can, as an independent celebrant I am very happy to include elements of religion or spirituality or even a blend of religions if that suits you as a couple.
How does it work?
Here is an outline of what happens from here:
♥ You contact me - hello!
♥ We arrange a no obligation video chat over a cuppa where we can get to know each other a bit better and I can answer any intial questions you may have.
♥ You book me, pay a booking deposit and your wedding date is firmly placed in my diary!
♥ I send you a 'Couples Quiz' to get to know all the ins and outs of your relationship - how you met, the proposal, your favourite holiday, hopes for the future etc.
♥ We have a second meeting (in person ideally) to discuss in detail all your ideas about the ceremony and go through all the finer details - 60-90 mins usually.
♥ I send through a first draft of your ceremony script (and nervously await your reply!)
♥ We tweak and rewrite until we have a final draft you are both happy with.
♥ I arrive at your ceremony venue on the day in plenty of time, greet your guests, talk with other people involved with the day so all runs smoothly and we hold your beautiful and unique ceremony to celebrate your lifelong commitment to each other.
♥ I leave you with a ceremony script and wedding certificate to keep and many many good wishes for a long and happy life together.
